So this is embarrassing...
I was thinking earlier today about the greatest thing I have ever done. Though I am not locking it in as my final answer, the first thing that comes to mind is skydiving. I went skydiving for my 21st birthday, and it was one of the best choices I have ever made. The view from 14,000 feet above the ground with nothing separating you from the vista below, is spectacular. It took my breath away! (Well, maybe that was the air flying by my face during freefall) Overall, the experience was fantastic. However, there was one tiny drawback from the experience...
The most embarrassing thing that I have done in the last year.
So here's the thing about skydiving - during the freefall portion of proceedings it is really hard to breathe. Imagine sticking your head out of a car that is driving 100-120mph. The wind forces the breath you are trying to exhale back into your lungs. I was warned of this before going, so I was mentally prepared to feel like I was suffocating. Before we dropped out of the airplane, my instructor reminded me to scream as we fell, not necessarily because I was scared, but because that is the best way to force that trapped air out of your lungs.
One tiny problem. I can't scream. I have never been someone who screams, or even yells loud.
This was a problem, because I was unable to force air out of my lungs, and I was also unable to swallow, because of the whole feeling like I was suffocating thing. The air pressure didn't help. Because I could not swallow, my mouth filled with saliva. In general, none of this was a pressing issue to me. I had prepared for this. I was looking around having a good time. Then, I turned my head to look left, and the wind caught the saliva in my mouth. Suddenly my carefree falling was accompanied by a seemingly endless stream of spit flying out the side of my mouth.
Ew.
Had this happened when I was alone it would not have been an issue. I am sure things like that happen all the time. I hope things like that happen all the time. Oh no! What if things like that don't happen all the time?! Because, I was not alone. I was strapped tightly to an attractive skydiving instructor, who happened to be filming my flight. Not only was I not alone, but there is video proof out there somewhere of my most embarrassing moment of 2015. I just hope and pray that the spit didn't hit the instructor in the face. That would be absolutely mortifying.
Anyway, the instructor never said anything about it, but you can bet that the next time I go skydiving - and there will be a next time - I will try harder to not be a slobbering idiot! Made for a funny story when I made it to my friends on the ground though!
