Oh hey May...
Is it just me or did April absolutely fly by? Now that it is May, we are one month closer to my favorite month of the year - September. All of the months of the year have their merits, but I don't think any other month quite comes close. In honor of the month of May, and the approach of September, I have written a list of the reasons that September is my favorite month...
- The temperature: September is still warm, but not quite as hot as July and August.
- The beginning of Autumn: The promise of hot apple cider, the smell of wood smoke, and wearing jeans again after a summer of shorts.
- Football season: Go Hawkeyes!!
- The start of school: at least in college, classes began in September. This was not the case growing up, but in September school was still somewhat novel. I always loved being reunited with friends I hadn't seen much in the previous months.
- My Birthday: gotta love having a reason to eat cake!
- Tourism season is pretty much over: when I walk downtown in Chicago during the summer, I have to dodge people stopping on a dime to take pictures, and everywhere is more crowded than I would like. In September the crowd thins out a bit before the holiday visitors start coming.
- The weather: I know I already mentioned this, but as someone who is perpetually uncomfortable (either really cold or sweating), I really, really appreciate September weather where I can be moderately comfortable for 30 days.
- It's National Potato Month: french fries, chips, mashed potatoes, hashbrowns, gnocchi, scalloped potatoes, latkes, potato nachos, tater tots...need I go on?
- National Guacamole Day: September 16th in case you were wondering.
So the countdown continues. 4 months until it is September again. Until then, I will continue living in the moment, and enjoy May while it's here.
Which month is your favorite?
